Legacy Nature Preserve

Legacy Nature Preserve is a protected wetland of about 2,100 acres in south Davis County, lying along the west side of Legacy Parkway near the highway's southern end. The Utah Department of Transportation bought the land to create the preserve as mitigation for the parkway. Its habitat includes bare mudflats, seasonal wet meadow, deep emergent marshes and meandering open-water channels, which the Jordan River Foundation describes as a link between the Great Salt Lake ecosystem and Wasatch Mountain ecosystems.

The preserve interior is not open to the public. The Jordan River Foundation says it can be viewed from the Legacy Parkway Trail, and the Jordan River Commission notes that paddlers on the Jordan River can travel through the preserve, though there is no public takeout inside it. The Legacy Parkway Trail parallels the parkway for its full length, and Hiking Project describes the Legacy Nature Trail, a flat 3.1-mile dirt path that starts at the preserve's parking area and runs between the preserve and the highway. The Jordan River Foundation lists the preserve's address as 2100 West 500 South, Woods Cross.

This is a place for birding and trail walking from the edge rather than a park to explore on foot. No restrooms, pavilions or shade structures are listed for the preserve.
