About Sugar House Park
Sugar House Park is a 109-acre open space between 1300 East and 1700 East, bounded by 2100 South on the north and I-80 on the south. Its main loop is a 16-foot-wide lane for walkers, runners and cyclists that winds 1.38 miles with 92 feet of elevation gain, according to the park's website. Parley's Creek runs through the grounds, and the Fabian Lakeside Pavilion sits next to Sugar House Pond and the park's well-known sledding hill.
There are two playgrounds. Parley's Creek Playground is between the Parley's Creek and Fabian Lakeside pavilions, and Sugar Beet Playground is near the Sugar Beet Pavilion and the basketball court. The Hidden Grove basketball court on the east end has six hoops, and a street soccer court was added in 2023. Four athletic fields can be reserved for games, and the seven pavilions are first come, first served when they are not booked. Three restroom buildings serve the park: the Fabian Lakeside restroom is open year-round, and the other two close in winter. Highland High School replacement work and a softball field rebuild have affected some pavilions and fields in 2026, so check the park's facilities page before planning an event.
The park no longer hosts its former Fourth of July fireworks show, and park rules prohibit fireworks of any kind. Alcohol, swimming or wading in the pond and creek, and off-leash dogs are also prohibited (the park has no off-leash area). As listed on the park's website in September 2026, hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. from May through October and 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. from November through April.
